Finland – Ukraine
Finland hosts Ukraine in a match from Group I of the World Cup qualifiers in Helsinki. These are two teams in a totally different position in the group. The home side Finland have won just one point from the first five games, being on par with the last team in the group Kosovo. We could easy point out that Finland is already without much of a chance to do something remarkable in this group. As for Ukraine, things are different for them. Ukraine is currently third in Group I, but being on just two points behind the 2nd team in the standings Iceland. Croatia is the big favorite for the first place in the group, but for Ukraine, it’s totally possible to beat Iceland for the 2nd spot. But if they want to do it, they should avoid mistakes against the weakest teams in the group like Finland. It’s a difficult campaign for the Scandinavians. Finland began their participation in the group with a draw against Kosovo at home, but after that, they lost four consecutive times. They have scored just 3 goals so far, having conceded 8.Ukraine on the other hand suffered their first defeat in the group in their last game. Andriy Shevchenko’s boys were beaten with 0-1 by Croatia in Zagreb, after a winning goal being scored by Nikola Kalinic. Before that, the Ukrainians have won two consecutive times against Finland and Kosovo. How we pointed out, the first game between Ukraine and Finland in Group I was won by the Ukrainians. It happened in Kiev and it was not an easy win for the home side. Shevchenko’s team won the clash with 1-0, after a winning goal by Artem Kravets. It was kind of disappointing game by Ukraine in terms of performance, as the fans in Kiev were expecting to see more goals in Finland’s net. Let’s see what’s going to happen in Helsinki this weekend.
